Understanding the "Business account is restricted" Error
You may receive an error stating "Business account is restricted from messaging users in this country" when trying to send a WhatsApp message from your CRM. This is not an error with your CRM configuration, but a temporary policy restriction enforced directly by WhatsApp (Meta).
Why This Happens
WhatsApp has implemented temporary restrictions on cross-country messaging for specific regions. Due to this policy:
- If your business is located outside of Brazil or Indonesia, you cannot send WhatsApp messages to phone numbers registered in Brazil or Indonesia.
- If your business is located inside Brazil or Indonesia, you can only send messages to users within that same country and cannot message users in other regions.
This is a platform-wide rule applied to all WhatsApp Business accounts.
What Still Works
Not all messaging is affected. The following operations continue to function normally:
- Sending messages between users within the same country (e.g., Brazil to Brazil).
- Receiving incoming messages from any user.
- Your WhatsApp account status, approved message templates, and quality rating remain intact.
Can This Restriction Be Lifted or Bypassed?
