Getting Started with Community Chat
The Community Chat feature allows you to connect with other members of your community through private, one-on-one messaging. This guide explains how to use its features and manage your privacy settings.
Starting a Chat
To begin a private conversation with another community member:
- Join a Group: You must first be a member of a group within the community. Navigate to the Groups section, find a group you wish to join, and become a member.
- Access Community Chat: After joining a group, go to the Community Chat tab.
- Select a User: From the list of group members, click on a user's name to open a private chat with them.
Chat Features
Within a Community Chat, you can:
- Send Private Messages: Engage in direct, one-on-one conversations.
- Enable Push Notifications: Receive instant alerts for new messages. You can enable these notifications in your mobile app's settings.
- Share Media and Files: Send photos, videos, documents, and other files.
- Use Emojis and GIFs: Express yourself using a variety of emojis and GIFs.
Privacy and Security Controls
You have control over your chat experience with the following settings.
Disabling Chats for a Group
If you do not wish to participate in chats for a specific group, you can disable the feature.
- Go to your Profile and select Account Settings.
- Inside the Community Chat settings, locate the group you want to mute.
- Toggle the Enable Chat setting off. You can re-enable it at any time by following the same steps.
Blocking a User
To prevent a user from sending you messages:
- Open the chat conversation with the user you want to block.
- Click the Options dropdown menu within the chat window.
- Select Block User. Once blocked, the user will no longer be able to message you.
