When your WhatsApp Display Name shows a "Declined" status in your CRM, it means Meta has rejected your proposed business name during their review process. This article explains common reasons for rejection and how to successfully resubmit your display name.
Common Reasons for Display Name Rejection
Meta reviews all WhatsApp Business display names to ensure compliance with their Commerce Policy and Business Policy. Your name may be declined if:
- The name is too generic or potentially misleading to users
- It doesn't match your legal business name or documentation
- It contains restricted terms like "Official" or "Global"
- It includes unsupported symbols or emojis
- There's insufficient association between the display name and your verified business assets (such as your Facebook Page or Business Manager account)
How to Fix a Declined Display Name
Follow these steps to resubmit your display name for approval:
- Access your Meta Business Manager and select your business
- Navigate to WhatsApp Manager
- Select the WhatsApp account where you want to update the display name
- Click Phone Numbers in the left-hand menu
- Hover over the current display name and click the pencil icon
- Enter your new display name in the Edit Display Name field
- Click Next to submit the change for approval

Display Name Guidelines
Ensure your display name meets these requirements:
- Complies with WhatsApp's Commerce and Business policies
- Clearly represents your business, product, service, or department
- Is linked to your business, even for test or demo accounts
- Avoids generic terms, geographic locations, and Meta product names
- Does not include restricted or prohibited products and services
Important Considerations
Businesses can change their display name up to 10 times within a 30-day period. After approval, the display name certificate is valid for 14 days. If it expires, you'll need to resubmit the name for approval. Note that display name approval is optional—you can use WhatsApp Business Platform with your phone number showing instead of a display name.
