Control Commenting on Your Community Posts

About Comment Control in Communities

Within your CRM's Communities feature, you have the ability to decide whether members can comment on the posts you create. This gives you full control over engagement, allowing you to tailor each post to its purpose—whether it's an announcement meant to be read, a discussion meant to spark conversation, or a resource shared for reference.

Benefits of Managing Comments

Controlling comments helps you maintain focus and organization in your community channels. Key advantages include:

  • Focused Conversations: Prevent off-topic or unnecessary replies by disabling comments on posts that don't require discussion.
  • Reduced Moderation: Minimize spam or unwanted interactions by limiting comments where they aren't needed.
  • Flexibility: You can change your mind later—comments can be turned on or off even after a post is published.
  • Clear Member Experience: When comments are disabled, members see a clear message indicating that commenting isn't available, avoiding confusion.

Who Can Manage Comments

Comment settings can be adjusted by:

  • The original author of the post
  • Channel managers within the community
  • Workspace administrators

How to Disable Comments When Creating a Post

When composing a new post in a community, you'll find a toggle labeled Turn off commenting. If you enable this toggle, the post will be published without a comment section. Members will see a message stating that comments are disabled, making it clear that the post is read-only.

This is ideal for official announcements, policy updates, or any content where feedback isn't necessary.

Changing Comment Settings After Publishing

You can update comment settings at any time after a post is live. To do so:

  1. Locate the post in your community.
  2. Click the three-dot menu () on the post.
  3. Select Turn off comments or Turn on comments as needed.

When you disable comments, existing replies are hidden—not deleted. If you re-enable comments later, all previously hidden replies will reappear.

Comment Behavior in Announcement Channels

In announcement channels, new posts allow comments by default. However, you can disable comments using the same method described above. For older announcement posts created before this feature was available, comments are disabled by default. You can review these and enable comments if desired.
