Control How Recipients Sign Documents and Contracts
About Signature Type Controls
You can manage the signing experience for your documents and contracts by specifying the allowed signature methods. You can restrict recipients to drawing their signature, typing their name, or giving them the option to choose either method. This global setting helps maintain a consistent and compliant process for all documents sent from your account.
Benefits of Configuring Signature Types
Setting a default signature type offers several advantages:
- Compliance: Enforce hand-drawn signatures to meet specific legal or policy requirements.
- Consistency: Ensure every signer has the same experience, reinforcing your brand's professionalism.
- Efficiency: Allow typed signatures for a faster signing process when appropriate.
- Centralized Management: Apply the rule across all documents without needing to adjust settings for each individual file.
Available Signature Types
You can choose from three options:
- Draw Signatures: Recipients must draw their signature using a mouse, finger, or stylus.
- Type Signatures: Recipients type their name, which is then displayed in a stylized script font.
- Both: Recipients can choose whether to draw or type their signature.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a global setting or can it be changed per document?
This is a global setting applied at the sub-account level within Document Settings. It affects all documents sent from that sub-account.
What happens if I change the setting after a document has been sent?
The new setting will apply to any new or refreshed signing sessions. If a recipient already has a document open, they may need to refresh the page for the new signature options to appear.
Does the signature type affect the audit trail or automation triggers?
No. The document's status, audit trail, and any associated workflow automations function identically regardless of whether a signature is drawn or typed.
