Using Custom Objects and Company Objects in Forms, Surveys, and Quizzes

What Are Custom Objects and Company Objects?

Custom Objects allow you to gather structured information specific to your business that doesn't fit into standard contact fields—such as property details, pet records, or vehicle information. This data connects to individual contacts, helping you organize your CRM around what's most relevant to your operations.

The Company Object is a pre-built object designed for storing business-level data like client organizations, agencies, or vendors. It enables you to group multiple contacts under a single company umbrella.

Think of it this way:

  • Use Custom Objects to track unique items or concepts specific to your industry.
  • Use the Company Object to track which organization a contact represents or works for.

What You Can Do

Custom Object Capabilities

  • Add fields of various types (text, numbers, dates, dropdowns, etc.) to your custom objects.
  • Link data to contacts using one-to-one, one-to-many, or many-to-many relationships.
  • Automatically synchronize data updates across connected records.
  • Use custom object fields within forms, surveys, and quizzes.
  • Define your own primary field and support multiple associations per contact.
  • Model specialized data that doesn't belong to Companies, Contacts, or Opportunities.

Company Object Features

  • Includes default fields such as Name, Phone, and Email.
  • Uses Company Name as the automatic primary key.
  • Works exclusively with Contacts—each contact can be associated with only one company.
  • Accessible directly from contact records for easy viewing of linked company information.

How to Use Them

To create or manage Custom Objects, navigate to Settings > Custom Objects. For Company Objects, go to Settings > Companies (this object is pre-configured).

When building a form, survey, or quiz:

  1. Open the builder and add fields from within the available options.
  2. Select how the object should connect to the contact using association settings.
  3. The system will automatically include the primary field.
  4. Add additional fields from the same object type as needed.
  5. Save and publish—submissions will now link the contact and object data.

Best Practices

  • Use only one object type per form, survey, or quiz.
  • Configure associations immediately after adding a custom object field.
  • Define a primary field for custom objects; the system will use the first field if none is specified.
  • Remember that the Company Object's primary key (Company Name) is already set.
  • Keep object names simple and consistent to prevent confusion.
  • Avoid mixing Company and Custom Object fields in the same builder.

Ideal Use Cases

Custom Objects Work Best For:

  • Industry-specific tracking (e.g., properties, pets, vehicles, cases, or assets).

Company Object Works Best For:

  • B2B relationships—grouping multiple contacts under one business entity.
  • Maintaining structured, consistent, and interconnected data across your CRM.

Limitations

  • You cannot mix multiple object types in a single form.
  • Bulk updates and advanced reporting are not currently supported.
  • Forms, surveys, or quizzes with Company or Custom Object fields cannot be created or shared via the Template Library.
  • Custom fields or custom objects cannot be shared across sub-accounts.
  • Adding custom values to custom object fields is not supported.

Quick Fixes

  • If associations aren't loading, check your internet connection or object configuration.
  • Encountering a mixed object error? Remove previous object fields before adding new ones.
  • Missing a primary field? Define one in settings; the system will use the first field if none exists.
  • If you removed a primary field, all fields will be cleared from the builder—re-add them manually.
  • Company not appearing under a contact? Ensure the company exists in Settings > Companies.

Examples

Real Estate

Create a Custom Object for "Properties" to store details like location, size, and price. Each property record can link to multiple contacts, such as tenants, buyers, or owners.

Veterinary Clinic

Use a Custom Object for "Pets"—each pet record connects to the owner's contact and includes breed, medical notes, and vaccination history.

Agency or B2B Setup

Use the Company Object to store business-level information like company name, phone number, and billing address. Then, associate multiple client contacts with that company.

In Summary

Custom Objects provide the flexibility to structure your CRM data according to your business needs—offering scalability and customization. The Company Object offers a fixed structure for managing organizations and their associated contacts. Using both together gives you a comprehensive view of your relationships: Custom Objects for specialized data and Company Objects for business-level connections. This results in clean, linked, and purpose-driven CRM data—all in one place.
