Enable Tap to Pay on Your White-Labeled Mobile App

Overview

This guide explains how to enable Tap to Pay on your white-labeled mobile app for both iPhone and Android devices. Tap to Pay allows merchants to accept contactless payments directly through their smartphones, eliminating the need for additional hardware and streamlining the checkout experience.

Note: To enable Tap to Pay on iPhone, you must have an organization-level Apple Developer account with Account Holder access. This feature is available only through supported payment service providers (PSPs), such as Stripe or Square. Apple reviews each entitlement and distribution request before granting approval. Tap to Pay on Android follows a simpler process and does not require prior approval.

What Is Tap to Pay?

Tap to Pay enables merchants to accept payments from contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets using just their iPhone or Android device. This feature integrates directly with your CRM’s white-labeled app, allowing sub-accounts to receive payments through their connected Stripe or Square account.

Quick Note: Before starting the Tap to Pay setup, ensure the POS module is enabled in your mobile app via the Mobile App Customizer.

Enabling Tap to Pay on iPhone

The setup process for iPhone involves five main steps:

  1. Request the Tap to Pay entitlement from Apple.
  2. Wait for Apple’s review and entitlement approval.
  3. Submit requirements for distribution approval.
  4. Wait for Apple’s review and distribution addition.
  5. Push an app update to enable Tap to Pay functionality.

Step 1: Request Tap to Pay Entitlement

Prerequisite: You must be logged in as the Account Holder of your organization-level Apple Developer account.

Navigate to Apple’s official Tap to Pay on iPhone Entitlement Request Form and complete the submission. Select Stripe or Square as your PSP. Refer to Apple’s sample document for guidance on accurately filling out each field, including:

  • PSP: Stripe or Square
  • Organization Name: Your organization’s name
  • Owner Name: Organization’s owner name
  • Email: Your organization’s primary email
  • Distribution: App Store and Apple Business Manager
  • Onboarding Description: Merchants are onboarded as sub-accounts via the web app. After connecting to Stripe or Square, they can sign in on mobile to process payments.
  • Countries/Regions: List all countries or regions where your clients will use Tap to Pay, in order of release.

Ensure all responses match the sample document to improve approval chances.

Merchant Onboarding Process

Merchants are onboarded through the CRM’s web app:

  • The main account owner adds merchants as sub-accounts.
  • Each merchant connects their Stripe or Square account via the web interface.
  • Merchants sign in to the mobile app using sub-account credentials to start accepting payments directly into their Stripe or Square account.

Step 2: Wait for Apple’s Review and Entitlement Addition

Apple reviews each request based on eligibility and provided details. Once approved, the Tap to Pay entitlement will appear under your account’s Managed Capabilities. Notify your CRM account representative to proceed.

Step 3: Submit Requirements for Distribution Approval

After entitlement approval, submit the requirements shared by Apple, which may include a demo video and checklist.

Step 4: Wait for Apple’s Review and Distribution Addition

Wait for Apple to approve distribution after submitting the required assets.

Step 5: Push App Update

Once distribution access is granted, request an app update through the Mobile App Customizer to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone for all apps.

Enabling Tap to Pay on Android

Tap to Pay on Android does not require approval from Google. To enable it:

  • Request a white-labeled app update through the standard CRM update process.
  • Once updated, your Android app will automatically support Tap to Pay payments.
