Accepting Bank Transfers via NMI

Your CRM enables businesses to accept payments directly from eligible US and Canadian bank accounts through invoices, recurring invoices, and subscriptions using the NMI payment processor. This provides customers with a practical alternative to card payments, especially for larger transactions.

What Are NMI Bank Transfers?

NMI bank transfers allow customers to pay using their eligible US or Canadian bank accounts. Payments are initiated from an invoice and remain in a processing state until the customer’s bank returns a final result. Supported payment types include:

  • One-time invoices
  • Recurring invoices
  • Subscriptions

US customers provide an ABA routing number, while Canadian customers provide transit and institution numbers. The information requested during checkout adjusts based on the selected country.

Key Benefits

Bank-account payments offer flexibility and potential savings:

  • Alternative to card transactions for one-time and recurring billing
  • Potential cost savings on larger transactions
  • Support for both US and Canadian bank accounts
  • Compatibility with recurring invoices and subscriptions using saved accounts
  • Clear transaction tracking with provider, mode, source, masked account number, and status details

Supported Countries and Payment Types

NMI bank transfers are supported for eligible bank accounts based in:

  • United States
  • Canada

The payment method works with invoices, recurring invoices, and subscriptions. Customers must first complete a bank-account payment through an invoice before that account can be used for recurring payments.

Requirements

Before accepting bank transfers:

  • Connect an eligible NMI merchant account to the correct CRM subaccount
  • Confirm bank-account processing is enabled in your NMI account
  • Contact NMI to request activation if bank-account processing isn’t enabled
  • Complete required NMI settlement and payment-status configuration
  • Configure webhook settings as documented in NMI ACH support instructions
  • Confirm invoices use the intended NMI payment provider

Refer to the NMI integration setup guide for connection instructions.

US Bank Account Payment Experience

US customers select US / CA Bank account on the invoice payment page and provide:

  • Account Holder Name
  • Routing Number (ABA)
  • Account Number
  • Account Holder Type
  • Account Type
  • Authorization acknowledgment
  • ZIP code

The routing number must be the nine-digit ABA number associated with their US bank account.

Canadian Bank Account Payment Experience

Canadian customers select the bank-account payment option and provide:

  • Account Holder Name
  • Five-digit Transit Number
  • Three-digit Institution Number
  • Account Number
  • Account Holder Type
  • Account Type
  • Authorization acknowledgment
  • ZIP or postal code
  • Country (must select Canada)

Payment Processing and Settlement

Bank transfers don’t settle immediately like card transactions. After submission:

  • The invoice displays a payment-in-progress message
  • Initiation date and time may appear on the invoice
  • The transaction shows a processing status
  • Transaction details identify NMI as the provider and Bank Account as the mode
  • The account number is masked for security
  • The transaction source identifies the related invoice

An NMI bank transfer may take up to five business days to receive a final result. Wait until the transaction reaches a successful status before delivering products or services.

Saved Bank Accounts with Recurring Payments

Once a customer completes a bank-account payment through an invoice, the saved account becomes available for eligible recurring invoices and subscriptions.
