Collect Card Details in Documents & Contracts

What is the Card Details Field?

The Card Details field allows you to securely collect and store a signer’s payment method during the document signing process. By including this field in your documents or contracts, you can authorize future payments, reduce manual follow-ups, and create a smoother experience from signing to payment—all without requiring an immediate charge at the time of signing.

Key Benefits

  • Capture payment information early: Collect card details while the signer is already engaged with your document.
  • Reduce manual follow-ups: Eliminate the need to separately request payment information after a document is signed.
  • Support future billing: Use the saved card for invoices, subscriptions, or recurring payments through your connected payment provider.
  • Streamline the process: Combine authorization and signing into a single, seamless workflow.
  • Make it required when needed: Mark the field as mandatory to ensure card details are provided before document completion.
  • Flexible usage: Add the Card Details field to individual documents or reusable templates.

Requirements

Before using the Card Details field, ensure:

  • A supported payment provider is connected and active for your location.
  • The payment provider is properly configured for document workflows.
  • The field is assigned to the correct signer.
  • If card collection is mandatory, the Required option is enabled.

If no payment provider is connected, you may see a warning in the Properties panel. Use the Connect option to set up a provider, or sync your settings after making changes.

Field Settings

Customize the Card Details field from the Properties panel after adding it to your document. Available settings include:

  • To be filled by: Assign the field to a specific signer.
  • Required: Make the field mandatory before the document can be completed.
  • Placeholder: Customize the text displayed to the signer, such as “Enter Card Details.”

Signer Experience

When a signer opens a document containing the Card Details field, they can click Start filling out to begin. Upon selecting the field, a secure modal appears where they enter their card number, expiration date, security code, and country. After submission, they receive confirmation that their card has been securely saved.

Card Details vs. Direct Payments

While both options support payment workflows, they serve different purposes:

  • Card Details: Use when you want to save a card for future use without an immediate charge.
  • Direct Payments: Use when the signer needs to pay immediately after signing. This option can generate an invoice and redirect to a payment page.
