A2P 10DLC Campaign Use Case Types
What Are Campaign Use Case Types?
Campaign use case types define the specific purpose of your SMS or MMS messages. When registering an A2P 10DLC campaign in your CRM, you must select a use case that accurately reflects the nature of your communications—such as customer support, authentication, or promotional outreach. Choosing the correct use case is vital for meeting carrier compliance standards, avoiding message filtering or blocking, and maintaining trust with both carriers and recipients.
Key Benefits of Selecting the Right Use Case
Selecting the appropriate campaign use case ensures your messages are delivered reliably, compliantly, and with minimal delays during registration. Benefits include:
- Compliance Assurance: Reduces the risk of campaign rejection by The Campaign Registry (TCR)
- Carrier Understanding: Helps carriers accurately interpret message intent and apply spam filters
- Legal Alignment: Ensures your messaging practices adhere to industry and legal standards
- Faster Approval: Supports quicker registration with fewer compliance flags
- Improved Deliverability: Enhances long-term message delivery rates and sender reputation
List of Approved Campaign Use Case Types
The following use case types are commonly accepted by The Campaign Registry. Choose the one that best matches your messaging intent when registering your campaign in the CRM.
- 2FA: Two-factor authentication messages for login or identity verification
- Account Notifications: Updates about account status, changes, or activity
- Customer Care: Support or service messages initiated by the customer
- Delivery Notifications: Shipping or fulfillment alerts for goods or services
- Fraud Alert Messaging: Alerts about suspicious or unauthorized account activity
- Higher Education: Communications from colleges or universities
- Marketing: Promotional content and sales offers
- Mixed: Combines multiple use cases, such as marketing and notifications

- Public Service Announcement: Non-commercial, awareness-based messaging
- Security Alerts: Notifications about potential system or physical security risks
Special Campaign Use Cases
Some use cases are categorized as special by carriers and require additional documentation, verification, or pre-qualification. These often involve sensitive or regulated communications and may have different fees or restrictions.
- Charity / 501(c)(3) Nonprofit: For registered nonprofit organizations conducting charitable outreach; requires IRS nonprofit verification
- Emergency Services: Used by government agencies to deliver urgent safety or emergency messages; strictly limited and regulated
- Political: For political messaging, including campaigns, parties, and PACs; requires verification through Campaign Verify
Low-Volume Use Cases
For businesses with lighter SMS needs, the Low Volume Mixed use case is available. It supports the same message types as a standard Mixed campaign—such as marketing, customer care, and notifications—but comes with a lower monthly fee. This option is locked to the lowest throughput tier, making it a cost-effective choice for small businesses or organizations that do not require high-volume messaging.
Restricted and Forbidden Use Cases
Not all business categories or message types are eligible for A2P 10DLC registration. Campaigns may be rejected, filtered, suspended, or fined if they involve prohibited content, even if the selected use case appears to match. Before registering, ensure your business category and message content are permitted. Common restricted areas include:
- High-risk financial services
- Debt relief, debt collection, or loan-related offers
- Third-party lead generation
- Get-rich-quick or work-from-home schemes
- Illegal substances or controlled products
- Gambling and sweepstakes
- Certain sex, hate, alcohol, firearms, and tobacco-related content
- Messages that violate consent, privacy, or carrier requirements
Important: Selecting an available use case does not make otherwise prohibited content eligible for messaging.
