Setting Up Twilio Rebilling for Clients Previously Sharing Credentials
About Twilio Rebilling for Shared Credentials
This guide explains how to configure Twilio rebilling for clients who were previously using the same Twilio SID and Auth Token as other clients in your agency. By creating a separate Twilio sub-account for each client and updating their credentials in the CRM, you can ensure that usage and billing are accurately tracked per client. This process transitions your setup from a shared account to a rebilling system.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
- Administrator access to your main Twilio account.
- Agency owner or administrator access to your CRM.
- The client whose rebilling you wish to enable must already be set up in your CRM but currently using shared Twilio credentials.
Step 1: Create a New Twilio Sub-Account
Start by logging into your main Twilio account.
- Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top navigation.
- From the menu, select Sub-accounts.
- On the Sub-accounts page, click the red plus (+) icon to create a new sub-account.
- Name the new sub-account to clearly identify the specific client you are setting up rebilling for.
This creates a unique environment for the client's usage.
Step 2: Update Client Credentials in the CRM
Next, log into your CRM agency account.
- Navigate to Agency Settings and select the Twilio section.
- Scroll down the list to locate the client's account.
- To the right of the client's name, click the three dots icon (…) to open the options menu.
- Select Update Credentials from the menu.
- In the dialog that appears, you will need to enter new values for the SID and Auth Token.
To find the new SID and Auth Token for the client's sub-account:
- Return to your Twilio account and go to the Sub-accounts section.
- Click on the name of the sub-account you just created for the client.
- The Account SID and Auth Token for this sub-account will be displayed on the page.
Copy these values from Twilio and paste them into the corresponding fields in the CRM's Update Credentials dialog. Save the changes.
Verifying the Setup
After completing these steps, the client's account in the CRM is now linked to their dedicated Twilio sub-account. You can now activate Twilio Rebilling for this client in SaaS mode. To confirm the setup is working correctly, monitor the usage and billing reports in both the Twilio and CRM dashboards to ensure charges are being attributed to the correct client account.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I confirm billing is accurate after the change?
Review the billing and usage reports within both your Twilio account and the CRM dashboard. Compare the data to ensure that the client's activity is being billed to their new, individual sub-account. Regular checks will help maintain billing accuracy.
Can I switch back to the shared credentials if there is a problem?
While technically possible, reverting to a shared SID and token is not recommended as it can lead to inaccurate billing and management issues. If you encounter problems with the new configuration, it is best to troubleshoot the specific issue. Contact support for assistance before considering a reversion.
