Troubleshooting WhatsApp Number Verification on Sub-Accounts
Resolving OTP Delivery Issues for WhatsApp Number Verification
If you are attempting to verify a phone number for WhatsApp Business API use on a sub-account and not receiving the One-Time Password (OTP), a common cause is that the number is already registered with the standard WhatsApp Business application. The WhatsApp system cannot send a verification code to a number that is already active on its consumer platform. Follow the steps below to diagnose and resolve this issue.
Step 1: Check the Number's Registration Status
First, confirm whether the phone number is currently active on WhatsApp. You can check this status by using an online verification tool designed for this purpose, or by simply checking if the number appears as registered within the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app on a mobile device.
Step 2: Choose a Resolution Path
If you confirm the number is already registered with the standard WhatsApp Business app, you have two options:
- Use a Different Phone Number: The simplest solution is to select a new, unused phone number to register with the WhatsApp Business API through your CRM.
- Deactivate the Existing Account: If you must use the same number, you must first deactivate the WhatsApp account associated with that number in the regular WhatsApp Business app. After deactivation, note that there can be a waiting period before the number is fully released by WhatsApp's systems and becomes available for API registration. Only after this release period should you attempt the verification process again in your CRM sub-account.
