Enable File Downloads from Buttons, Images, and SVGs

Provide a seamless experience for your website or funnel visitors by allowing them to download files directly from clickable elements. This feature transforms buttons, images, and SVGs into instant download links, keeping users engaged on your page without requiring redirects to external services.

How the Download Feature Works

When you assign a downloadable file to an element, a visitor's click triggers an immediate download of the specified asset. The file is served directly from your CRM's media library, ensuring a fast and reliable delivery.

Benefits of Using the Download Action

  • Instant Access: Visitors receive the file immediately upon clicking, with no intermediate steps or page reloads.
  • No Coding Required: The entire setup is managed visually within the website and funnel builder.
  • Flexible Design: Apply the action to buttons, images, and SVG graphics to match your site's aesthetic.
  • Customizable Filenames: Set a specific filename that users will see when saving the file, which is great for branding.
  • Integrated Media Library: Easily select any file you have uploaded to your media library.
  • Wide Format Support: Works with common file types like PDFs, images, videos, documents, and ZIP archives.

Requirements and Limitations

  • You can only link one file per element (button, image, or SVG).
  • The file must be uploaded to your CRM's media library.
  • Standard media library file size and format restrictions apply.
  • This action is only available for buttons, images, and SVGs.

Tip: If you need to offer multiple files for download from a single element, combine them into a ZIP archive first.

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive filenames (e.g., Company_Whitepaper.pdf).
  • Optimize file sizes for faster downloads.
  • Label your clickable elements clearly (e.g., "Download Our Guide").
  • Ensure you are using the final version of a file, as replacing it in the media library after linking may break the download.

Setting Up a Download Action

Follow these steps to add a download action to an element on your page.

Step 1: Open Your Page in the Builder

  1. From the main navigation, click Sites.
  2. Select the Websites or Funnels tab.
  3. Find and click on the specific website or funnel you want to edit.
  4. Navigate to the desired page or step and click Edit to open the builder.

Step 2: Select the Element and Configure the Action

  1. Click on the button, image, or SVG you wish to make downloadable.
  2. In the settings panel that appears, locate the action dropdown menu. This menu is named Button Actions for buttons, Image Action for images, and SVG Action for SVGs.
  3. From the dropdown, select the option for Download File.

Step 3: Choose the File

  1. Click the Select File button.
  2. Choose a file from your media library or upload a new one.
  3. Optionally, enter a custom name for the downloaded file in the File Name field.

Troubleshooting

  • Click Does Nothing: Verify that the Download File action is selected and that a file is attached to the element.
  • Broken Link (404 Error): Check that the linked file still exists in your media library and has not been deleted or moved.
  • Download Stalls: The file might be too large. Check its size against the media library limits and compress it if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I attach multiple files to one element?
A: No. Each element can only be linked to a single file. To offer multiple files, bundle them into a ZIP archive first.

Q: Can I make the file open in a new tab instead of downloading?
A> The Download File action is specifically for downloads. To open a file in a new tab, you would use the "Open URL in New Tab" action instead.

Q: Can I use a dynamically generated URL for the file?
A: No. This action only works with static files selected directly from the media library.

Q: Does this work on mobile devices?
A: Yes, though some mobile browsers may prompt the user to select an app to open the file.

Q: Do I need to use Dropbox or Google Drive?
A: No. Files are hosted and delivered directly from your CRM's media library, so no external services are required.
