Using the Instagram Interactive Messenger Workflow Action

What is the Instagram Interactive Messenger Action?

The Instagram Interactive Messenger action enables you to automate direct message conversations on Instagram by incorporating interactive elements such as buttons and quick replies. This feature allows you to respond automatically to comments or direct messages, creating personalized and engaging interactions without manual effort. It is particularly effective for capturing leads, sharing resources, or transitioning public comment threads into private messages.

Key Advantages

Using this action offers several benefits:

  • Scalable Automation: Respond instantly to Instagram interactions, ensuring timely and consistent engagement with followers.
  • Conversion Opportunities: Guide users toward specific actions—like visiting your website or scheduling a call—through interactive buttons or quick replies.
  • Personalized Messaging: Utilize templates, custom values, and trigger links to deliver tailored messages that resonate with each contact.
  • Efficient Lead Capture: Seamlessly move prospects from public post interactions into private conversations for further nurturing.
  • Time Savings: Automate routine tasks, freeing your team to focus on more strategic activities.

How to Configure the Instagram Interactive Messenger Action

Access the Workflow Builder

Navigate to Automation → Workflows → Create Workflow (or open an existing workflow) to enter the Workflow Builder interface.

Add an Instagram Trigger

Click + Add Trigger and select one of the following options:

  • Instagram Comment on Post: Triggers when a follower comments on your Instagram post.
  • Customer Reply (Instagram): Activates when a contact sends or replies to a direct message.

Note: This action is only available if one of these Instagram-specific triggers is used.

Place the Action

On the workflow canvas, click + at the desired location, then go to Actions → Communication → Instagram Interactive Messenger.

Name the Action

Provide a clear and descriptive name in the Action Name field to easily identify it within your workflow.

Select the Reply Type

Under Reply Type, choose:

  • Reply to Comment via DM: Use this if the trigger is a new comment and you want to move the conversation to a private message.
  • Reply to DM: Select this when responding to an incoming direct message.

Compose Your Message

In the Message → Body section, write the content of your direct message. For personalization, incorporate custom values from Settings → Custom Values. To track clicks or direct users to specific URLs, use trigger links from Marketing → Trigger Links.

Tip: Keep messages concise and start with an engaging hook followed by a clear call-to-action.

Add an Attachment (Optional)

Use Add Attachment to upload a file or Add file through URL to include a hosted asset. Attachments are useful for resources like guides or checklists.

Important: If you include an attachment, you cannot add quick replies in the same message. If quick replies are needed, omit the attachment or send it in a subsequent action.

Include Interactive Controls

Choose one of the following options to add interactivity:

  • Buttons: These provide persistent actions that remain visible even after interaction. They are ideal for driving specific outcomes, such as opening a website or making a phone call.
  • Quick Replies: These offer one-tap responses that disappear after selection, perfect for real-time conversation guidance, like asking for preferences or information.

Tip: Use buttons for lasting actions and quick replies for immediate, focused questions.

Configure Branches

When you add a button or quick reply, the system automatically creates a workflow branch for each option. Within each branch, you can add follow-up actions—such as sending another message, applying a tag, or updating a pipeline stage—to create tailored experiences based on user choices.

Set the Wait Time

Specify how long the workflow should wait before proceeding to the next action, ensuring timely follow-ups without overwhelming the user.
