Using the Remove Contact Tag Workflow Action

Overview

The Remove Contact Tag action allows you to delete specific tags from a contact's profile in your CRM. This is a powerful tool for maintaining accurate contact segmentation, updating statuses, and managing which automated workflows a contact is part of.

Action Configuration

Action Name

Give the action a clear, descriptive name that will help you identify its purpose when reviewing your workflow.

Tags

This is the primary field for the action. Click the dropdown menu to select one or more specific tags you want to remove from the contact. You can choose multiple tags from the list.

Remove All Tags

If you want to clear every tag from the contact's profile, switch on the Remove All Tags toggle. When this option is enabled, the standard Tags selection field becomes unavailable, as all tags will be removed.

Common Use Cases

This action is often paired with triggers that indicate a change in a contact's status or behavior. Here are a few examples:

  • After a Contact Replies: If a customer sends a message containing a keyword like "unsubscribe," you can trigger a workflow to remove marketing-related tags.
  • When an Appointment is Canceled: Use an appointment status change trigger to automatically remove a tag like "Appointment Scheduled" to keep records accurate.
  • Following a Survey Response: If a survey submission shows a contact is no longer interested, you can remove tags that identify them as a lead.

Example Scenario

Imagine you tag contacts as "Webinar Attendee" when they register for an online event. To ensure your follow-up communications are relevant, you can create a workflow that removes this tag if a contact does not actually attend the webinar.

You could set up the workflow with the following steps:

  1. Trigger: Webinar Not Attended (This trigger activates when a contact misses the event).
  2. Action: Remove Contact Tag. Configure it to remove the "Webinar Attendee" tag.
  3. Optional Action: You might add a subsequent action to apply a new tag, such as "Missed Webinar," to segment these contacts for a different communication strategy.
