Using the Trigger Link Clicked Workflow Trigger

Overview

The Trigger Link Clicked workflow trigger allows you to start an automated sequence of actions whenever a contact clicks on a unique, predefined link. This is especially useful for tracking engagement with links sent via email, SMS, or other messages and then automatically responding to that interaction.

How to Configure the Trigger

Selecting the Trigger

When building or editing a workflow, navigate to the trigger selection step. From the list of available triggers, choose Trigger Link Clicked.

Naming the Trigger

Give your trigger a clear and descriptive name. This name helps you identify the trigger's purpose later, for example, "Discount Link Clicked" or "Webinar Registration Link."

Setting the Filter

The core of this trigger is specifying which exact link will activate the workflow. Use the provided filter to select the specific trigger link from the dropdown menu. This ensures the workflow only runs when a contact clicks on that particular link. This filter is mandatory.

  • Trigger Link: Choose the specific link that, when clicked, will start the workflow. This is a required setting.

Example Use Case

Imagine you want to automatically follow up with contacts who show interest in a special offer.

Goal: Send a thank you email and tag contacts who click a promotional link.

Setup:

  • Workflow Trigger Name: "Spring Sale Follow-up"
  • Filters: Set the Trigger Link filter to "Spring Sale Promo".
  • Workflow Steps:
    1. Trigger: Trigger Link Clicked (configured as above).
    2. Action 1: Send Email - Send an automated email thanking the contact for their interest and providing an additional incentive.
    3. Action 2: Update Contact - Add a tag like "Promo Engaged" to the contact's profile for future segmentation and targeting.
