Workflow Action: Send Event to Google Analytics

Overview

This workflow action allows you to send a custom event directly to your Google Analytics account from within the CRM. You can use it to track specific user interactions, such as form submissions or purchases, providing valuable data for analysis and marketing insights. The action supports both Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Universal Analytics properties.

Action Configuration

To add this action to a workflow, locate it in the action library, typically under a category like "Integrations" or "External Services." Once added, you will need to configure the following details in the action's settings panel.

Required Fields

  • Action Name: Give this specific action instance a descriptive name for your reference (e.g., "Log Form Submission to GA").
  • Action Type: Select either Google Analytics 4 or Universal Analytics based on the version of Google Analytics you are using.
  • Measurement ID: Enter the unique Measurement ID for your GA4 property. This is required to identify your data stream.
  • Event Name: Specify the exact name of the event as you want it to appear in your Google Analytics reports (e.g., "contact_form_submit", "purchase_completed").
  • API Secret: Input the API secret key generated from your Google Analytics account. This is required to authenticate and securely send the event data.

Optional Field

  • Event Value: You can optionally include a numerical value associated with the event, such as a purchase amount, lead score, or other metric.

Common Use Cases

This action is versatile and can be triggered by various events in your CRM workflows to feed data into Google Analytics. Here are some practical examples:

  • Form Submission Tracking: Trigger the action when a contact submits a website form. Send an event named "form_submitted" to track conversion sources.
  • Lead Qualification: Fire an event when a contact is tagged as a "Hot Lead" or moves to a new pipeline stage, allowing you to analyze the lead journey.
  • E-commerce Tracking: Use the action when a product purchase is recorded. Include the order total in the Event Value field to track revenue.
  • Appointment or Booking Confirmation: Send an event when an appointment is booked through your calendar system to measure booking funnel effectiveness.

Important Notes

Before using this action, ensure your Google Analytics property is properly set up and that you have the correct Measurement ID and API Secret. Inaccurate credentials will prevent events from being recorded. Events sent via this action will appear in the real-time and standard event reports within your Google Analytics interface, where they can be used for creating audiences, custom reports, and triggering other marketing automations.
