Workflow Trigger: Click to WhatsApp Ads & Facebook Page CTA

What Is the WhatsApp Workflow Trigger?

The WhatsApp Workflow Trigger lets you automatically launch a workflow whenever a potential customer sends you a message by tapping a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or the WhatsApp button on your Facebook Page. This enables you to engage leads instantly while their interest is high, without manual intervention.

Key Benefits

Instant Engagement

When a prospect reaches out via an ad or page CTA, your CRM immediately starts a conversation and triggers your workflow. This rapid response increases the chance they’ll stay engaged.

Cost Efficiency

By replying within 24 hours, you open a free 72-hour messaging window. During this period, you can send both template and free-form messages without incurring additional costs.

Automated Follow-Up

Your workflow can automatically tag contacts, assign them to pipelines, send messages, or perform other actions, ensuring no lead is overlooked.

How the Trigger Works

This trigger is activated when someone using an Android or iOS device messages you through:

  • A Meta Click-to-WhatsApp ad
  • The WhatsApp call-to-action button on your Facebook Page

When the message arrives, the CRM launches any workflow attached to this trigger. It can also capture details like the Ad ID or campaign name and store them in custom fields for later use.

Filtering by Ad or Post

You can add filters to control exactly which ads or posts activate the workflow. This lets you create tailored automation for specific campaigns.

Available filters include:

  • Ad ID
  • Post ID
  • URL
  • Headline
  • Source type

By applying these, you ensure the workflow only runs for the interactions you choose.

Setting Up the Trigger

Step 1: Create a New Trigger

Navigate to Automation and select Add New Trigger. Choose Click to WhatsApp Ads from the list of available triggers.

Step 2: Apply Filters (Optional)

If you want to restrict the trigger to specific ads or posts, add the relevant filters, such as Ad ID, Post ID, URL, headline, or source type.

Step 3: Add Workflow Actions

With the trigger in place, build out the rest of your workflow. Common actions include sending a WhatsApp message, adding a tag, assigning to a pipeline stage, or triggering a webhook.

Step 4: Save and Activate

Once you’ve configured the trigger and actions, save the workflow. It will now run automatically for new messages from your selected ads or page CTAs.

Understanding Free Entry Point Messaging

When a user messages you via a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or Facebook Page CTA button from an Android or iOS device, and you reply within 24 hours, a free entry point conversation is opened. This conversation lasts for 72 hours, during which you can send any type of message without charge.

If you don’t respond within 24 hours, you’ll need to use a message template to reply, which will open a categorized conversation (marketing, utility, or authentication) instead of a free entry point.

Note that opening a free entry point conversation closes any other open conversations with that contact. Also, the 24-hour customer service window for sending free-form messages is separate from the 72-hour free messaging period.

Frequently Asked Questions

What devices are supported?

The trigger works when messages are sent from Android or iOS devices.

Can I use this for multiple campaigns?

Yes. By applying filters, you can create separate workflows for different ads or posts, allowing for customized follow-up based on the source.

What happens if I don’t reply within 24 hours?

You lose the free entry point conversation and must use a message template to respond, which may incur costs depending on the template category.
