How to Delete a Subaccount or Location
Overview
A subaccount, also known as a location, is a separate business or client account managed within your agency's CRM. This guide explains how to delete a subaccount and covers the 24-hour grace period that allows you to reverse the deletion before it becomes permanent.
Reasons for Deleting a Subaccount
You might need to delete a subaccount for several reasons:
- A client has stopped using the platform.
- You have duplicate or unused accounts that need to be removed.
- You want to manage costs by reducing the number of active accounts.
- You need to remove sensitive data for security or compliance reasons.
Important Considerations
Deleting a subaccount is a serious action with lasting consequences. Before proceeding, keep the following in mind:
- Permanent data loss: After 24 hours, all contacts, messages, campaigns, settings, and other data within the subaccount will be permanently erased.
- Integration disconnection: You must manually disconnect all third-party integrations (such as phone services, email providers, and social media platforms) before deletion.
- Alternative to deletion: If you are unsure, consider pausing the subaccount instead, which stops billing but preserves all data.
- Client portal access: Deleting a subaccount will also disable the associated client portal.
Steps to Delete a Subaccount
Step 1: Navigate to Subaccounts
From your agency dashboard, select Subaccounts from the left-hand menu. This will display a list of all subaccounts under your agency.
Step 2: Open Management Options
Locate the subaccount you wish to delete and click the three-dot menu icon next to it. From the menu that appears, select Manage Client.
Step 3: Start the Deletion Process
In the subaccount management view, click the Actions button in the top-right corner. From the dropdown menu, choose Delete.
Step 4: Confirm Deletion
You will be presented with several disclaimers that you must read and acknowledge. These include:
- Confirming you have discussed this with the client and have authority to proceed.
- Acknowledging that the action is irreversible and all data will be lost.
- Confirming you will disconnect and close any associated phone accounts, which will result in the permanent deletion of phone numbers and messaging campaigns.
After reading these, confirm to proceed with scheduling the deletion.
Step 5: Use the Grace Period if Needed
Once deletion is scheduled, you have 24 hours to reverse it. A notification with an undo link will appear on the Subaccounts page. If you take no action within 24 hours, the subaccount and all its data will be permanently deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover a subaccount after 24 hours?
No. After the 24-hour grace period, the deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Can I pause a subaccount instead of deleting it?
Yes. You can pause a subaccount from the Actions menu, which stops billing but keeps all data intact for future use.
Will I be charged for a paused subaccount?
No. Paused subaccounts do not incur any charges.
What happens to integrations when a subaccount is deleted?
All integrations must be manually disconnected beforehand. If not disconnected, they will cease to function immediately upon deletion.
