Keyword Research and Rank Tracking in CRM SEO
Keyword Research: Discover SEO Opportunities
The Keyword Research tool helps you uncover valuable keyword ideas for your SEO strategy. It provides metrics such as search volume, difficulty, and cost-per-click to help you evaluate potential keywords.
How to Use Keyword Research
Navigate to Keywords > Keyword Research in your CRM’s Advanced SEO section. Enter a broad seed keyword related to your niche or a competitor’s domain if supported. You can filter results by location and language, such as United States - English. Click search to generate suggestions.
Review the results, which may include columns for keyword, search volume, difficulty, CPC, trend, and intent. Use filters to narrow down results—for example, by setting a minimum search volume or maximum difficulty. Save promising keywords to a list for future reference.
Example: Searching for "teeth cleaning" might return suggestions like "teeth cleaning cost" with 1,000 monthly searches and moderate difficulty, indicating a good content opportunity.
Quota Usage
You receive 100 Keyword Research lookups per month. Each search uses one credit but can return many suggestions. To conserve credits, avoid redundant seed terms, use filters to explore results deeply, and mix broad terms, questions, and competitor domains.
Using the Insights
Build a targeted keyword list for content creation or optimization:
- Long-tail keywords: Suitable for blogs and FAQ pages.
- Buyer intent keywords: Effective for driving conversions.
- Question-based keywords: Ideal for blog posts, Q&A pages, or FAQ schema.
- High-volume core keywords: Ensure your main pages target these.
You can run additional searches for subtopics or explore tabs like Questions and Related, which may count as separate lookups.
Keyword Rank Tracking: Monitor Your SEO Progress
Once you have a keyword list, use the Rank Tracking tool to monitor performance over time.
Setting Up Rank Tracking
Go to Keywords > Rank Tracker in Advanced SEO and click New Project. Name the project, specify the domain to track, and select the search engine and location (e.g., Google US). You can optionally set competitors or add tags.
Add keywords to track by pasting them from your research or other sources. Group keywords with tags or topics for better organization. Set the update frequency to Daily, Every 3 Days, Weekly, or Manual. Weekly updates are recommended for most users.
Viewing Rank Tracking Data
Columns in the results may include current rank, change, base rank, best rank, search volume, URL, and last checked. View charts and trends to analyze performance per keyword and across the project, such as the number of keywords in the top 10. If competitors are added, compare your rankings with theirs.
Quota and Limits
You can track up to 5 projects and 1,000 keywords in total. The quota is continuous and does not reset monthly. You can swap keywords in and out but cannot exceed 1,000 simultaneously. Focus on tracking the most important keywords and use weekly checks to conserve resources.
Maximizing Value from Rank Tracking
Track high-value or competitive keywords strategically. Use tags to segment keywords by service, intent, or other categories. Monitor competitors to identify opportunities or threats. If available, set up alerts for rank changes. Report progress to clients or internally to demonstrate improvements.
Best Practices & Saving Lookups
Plan your research queries carefully—stick to 5–10 quality seed terms for new projects. Combine keyword research with content planning tools to reduce manual lookups. Update rank tracking wisely; daily updates are unnecessary for all keywords. Rotate seasonal keywords in and out as needed. Review insights from other sources to guide future research or tracking.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
No suggestions found: Try a broader or correctly spelled keyword.
Volume or difficulty seems inaccurate: Use the data directionally; it may not match other tools exactly.
Rank tracker not updating: Check the schedule and run a manual update if necessary.
Site not ranking: You may be outside the top 100 results; consider optimizing or pausing tracking.
Competitor’s site showing: Verify that you entered the correct domain.
Removing a keyword: This frees up a slot but erases history; export data if needed.
Local vs. national tracking: Use local SEO tools for Map Pack rankings; Rank Tracker is for organic results.
With keyword research and tracking, you can identify competitive opportunities and measure your SEO progress effectively.
