Managing Certificate Expiration Dates
Configuring Certificate Expiration
Administrators can define expiration dates for certificates awarded to users. This can be configured in two places: when creating the certificate template or when issuing a certificate to a specific user.
Setting Expiration at the Template Level
When you create or edit a certificate template, you can set a default expiration policy. The template editor provides a set of predefined options for you to select from, establishing a standard expiration rule for all certificates generated from that template.
Setting Expiration When Issuing a Certificate
When you issue a certificate to an individual user, you can override any template-level expiration setting. You have three choices:
- Never: The certificate will not expire.
- Immediately: The certificate will be marked as expired upon issuance.
- Custom Date: You can manually select a specific calendar date for the certificate to expire.
Expiration Reminder Emails
You can customize the timing of reminder emails sent to users before their certificate expires. This feature allows you to define exactly how many days in advance the reminder is sent, giving you more control than the previous default intervals.
Important Notes on Expiration Behavior
When a certificate expires, the user will no longer be able to view or download its preview from their portal.
If an expiration date is set both at the template level and for an individually issued certificate, the setting on the issued certificate takes priority and will be the one enforced.
