Affiliate Marketing Glossary

This glossary defines key terms and concepts used in the Affiliate Manager feature of your CRM.

Core Concepts

Affiliate
An individual or business that promotes your products or services in exchange for a commission on sales or leads they generate. They use unique tracking links to measure their performance.

Affiliate Campaign
A specific marketing initiative that contains the products or services available for affiliates to promote. Affiliates join these campaigns to access promotional materials and unique links.

Affiliate Link
A unique URL assigned to an affiliate. This link tracks clicks and any resulting conversions, ensuring the affiliate is credited for sales or leads generated through their promotion.

Affiliate ID
A unique code assigned to each affiliate. The system uses this ID to track all of their activity, including clicks, leads, and sales.

Source
The specific location where products or services are listed for affiliate promotion, such as a website, funnel, e-commerce store, calendar, survey, or form. The source is used to accurately track and attribute sales.

Commissions and Payouts

Commission
The payment an affiliate earns for generating a sale or lead. This can be a percentage of the sale price or a fixed flat fee.

Default Commission
The standard commission rate that applies to all products within an affiliate campaign, unless a specific product-based commission is set.

Product-Based Commission
A commission rate that is set for a specific product, overriding the campaign's default commission for that item only.

Recurring Commission
A commission structure where an affiliate continues to earn commissions for ongoing subscription payments or repeat purchases from a customer they originally referred.

Setup Fee
An initial fee charged for a product or service. You can configure whether or not this fee is included in the commission calculation for your affiliates.

Payout
The total amount of commission earnings owed to an affiliate, based on the sales or leads attributed to them.

Program Structure

Two-Tier Affiliate Program
A program structure where an affiliate can earn commissions not only from their own sales but also from the sales made by other affiliates they have recruited.

Multi-Tier Affiliate Program
An expanded program structure that allows affiliates to earn commissions from sales generated by multiple levels of sub-affiliates beneath them.

Sub-Affiliate
An affiliate who has been recruited by another, primary affiliate. The primary affiliate earns a commission from the sales made by their sub-affiliates.

Tracking and Reporting

Attribution
The process of correctly crediting a sale or lead to the affiliate whose promotional efforts generated it.

Cookie
A small file placed on a visitor's device when they click an affiliate link. It is used to track their activity and ensure the affiliate is credited for any subsequent conversion.

Cookie Length
The duration for which a tracking cookie remains active. If a customer makes a purchase within this timeframe after clicking the link, the affiliate receives credit.

Clicks
The number of times an affiliate link has been clicked. This metric helps measure the reach and initial interest generated by an affiliate's promotions.

Management Tools

Affiliate Portal
A personalized dashboard where affiliates can log in to view their performance metrics, including clicks, leads, sales, and earned commissions.

Magic Link
A secure, one-click login link that can be sent to affiliates, allowing them to access their portal without needing to enter a password.

Results

Lead
A person who has shown interest in your business, for example by submitting a form or booking an appointment. Leads can be generated automatically through affiliate links or added manually.

Customer
A lead who has completed a purchase. Affiliates typically earn their commission when a lead becomes a paying customer.
