How to Set Up Quiz Scoring and Dynamic Result Messages

Introduction

Quizzes in your CRM can be enhanced by assigning scores to answers and organizing them into categories. This allows you to generate meaningful results, such as assessments, recommendations, or audience segmentation based on responses. You can also display personalized result messages depending on the score ranges achieved. This functionality is ideal for assessments, personality quizzes, onboarding surveys, and more.

How to Add Scores to Quiz Answers

Step 1: Create or Edit a Quiz

Log into your CRM account and navigate to Sites > Quizzes. Choose an existing quiz or click + New Quiz to create a new one.

Step 2: Add Questions to the Quiz

Click Add Question and select a question type, such as Single Choice, Multiple Choice, or Dropdown. Enter your question and provide answer choices. For each answer, assign a score value that reflects its importance or weight.

Step 3: Assign Scores to Categories

Create score categories, for example, Category A, Category B, and so on. For Single Choice or Dropdown questions, assign a fixed score per answer. For Multiple Choice or Multi Dropdown questions, assign a score per option—these scores add up if multiple choices are selected. Then, assign each answer’s score to the relevant category.

Step 4: Save and Preview

Once all questions and scoring are configured, click Save Quiz. Use the Preview option to test the quiz and verify that scores are calculated correctly.

How Quiz Scoring Works

Maximum Score per Question

Each question has a maximum possible score based on its type. For Single Choice or Dropdown questions, only one answer can be selected, so the maximum score is fixed. For Multiple Choice or Multi Dropdown questions, multiple answers can be selected, so the maximum score is the sum of all available options.

Score Assignment

When a quiz-taker selects an answer, the score can contribute to the overall score only, to a specific category (and the overall score), or to multiple categories simultaneously. For example, an answer assigned to Category A will add to both Category A and the overall score.

Final Score Calculation

After all answers are submitted, the final score is calculated using the formula: Final Score = (Selected Score / Max Score) * 100. This calculation is performed separately for the overall score and for each category.

Understanding Overall Only

If an answer is assigned only to Overall Only, it does not affect any category. If assigned to both a category and Overall Only, it counts toward both. Categories are calculated independently but contribute to the overall score, which is the sum of all category scores.

Adding Dynamic Result Messages by Score Ranges

You can display customized messages based on the quiz taker’s score percentage. Navigate to the Result Page in the quiz builder. Define score ranges, such as Low: 0–40%, Medium: 41–70%, and High: 71–100%. Add a custom message for each range and optionally include a call-to-action, like subscribing or booking a call.

Building the Result Page from Scratch

You can fully customize the result page by adding or removing sections. Available sections include Header, Overall Score, Category Score, Individual Category, Call to Action, and Footer.

The top section of the result page can be customized to show or hide the business name, change the layout, upload a logo and adjust its size, edit the quiz title’s font and color, modify spacing, and set a background color.

Overall Score

This section summarizes the total quiz performance. You can enable Dynamic Content to show different messages for Low, Medium, and High scores. Rename the section title, show or hide the numeric score and tier legend, choose the score format (percentage or actual score), set the score position, and add tailored text, images, or links.

Best Practices

Double-check category assignments if totals do not add up as expected. Remember that answers assigned only to Overall Only do not affect categories. Always preview the quiz to confirm scoring accuracy before publishing.
