Automate Actions When Opportunities Are Updated

What is the Opportunity Changed Trigger?

The Opportunity Changed trigger is a powerful automation tool that activates a workflow whenever an opportunity record in your CRM is modified. This trigger monitors for any update, such as a change in the lead value, the assigned team member, the pipeline stage, or a custom field. It provides broader coverage than a status-only trigger, allowing you to build responsive automations that react to the full range of changes in your sales process.

Key Benefits

Using this trigger helps you maintain a dynamic and accurate sales pipeline.

  • Comprehensive Monitoring: Automate actions based on any edit to an opportunity, not just its status.
  • Real-Time Responsiveness: Instantly notify team members or update records the moment a change is made.
  • Enhanced Pipeline Management: Automatically assign follow-up tasks or trigger communications when key details are updated.
  • Precise Control: Use filters to ensure your workflow only runs for very specific types of changes.

Configuring the Trigger

You can add this trigger to any new or existing workflow.

Step 1: Access the Workflow Builder

Navigate to Automations and then select Workflows. Create a new workflow or open an existing one to edit.

Step 2: Add the Trigger

Click + Add New Trigger. In the searchable list of triggers, find and select Opportunity Changed.

Step 3: Name Your Trigger

Give the trigger a clear, descriptive name. This helps you identify its purpose later, especially when managing many workflows.

Step 4: Apply Filters (Optional)

Filters let you narrow down exactly when the workflow should run. You can add multiple filters to create precise conditions.

Assigned To Filter

This filter activates the workflow based on changes to the opportunity's owner.

  • Has Changed: Triggers when the assigned user is changed to any other user.
  • Has Changed To: Triggers only when the opportunity is assigned to a specific user you select.
  • Equals: Triggers when any change is made to opportunities currently assigned to a specific user.

Tag Filter

This filter controls the workflow based on tags present on the opportunity.

  • Has Tag: Triggers the workflow if the opportunity has a specific tag applied.

In Pipeline Filter

This filter ensures the workflow only runs for opportunities within a certain pipeline.

  • Has Changed: Triggers when the opportunity moves to any different pipeline.
  • Has Changed To: Triggers only when the opportunity moves to a specific pipeline you select.
  • Equals: Triggers when any change occurs on opportunities within a specific pipeline.

Lead Value Filter

This filter activates the workflow based on changes to the opportunity's monetary value.

  • Has Changed: Triggers when the lead value is updated to any new amount.
  • Has Changed To: Triggers only when the lead value is changed to a specific amount you define.
  • Equals: Triggers when any change is made to opportunities with a current value equal to a specific amount.

Example Use Cases

  • Reassignment Alert: When a high-value opportunity is reassigned to a new sales rep, automatically send a notification email to the new owner with the lead's details.
  • Value-Based Follow-up: If an opportunity's estimated value increases past a certain threshold, trigger a workflow to create a task for a manager to review the deal.
  • Pipeline-Specific Actions: When an opportunity is moved into your "Closing" pipeline, automatically send a personalized follow-up email sequence to the contact.

Backward Compatibility

All existing workflows using the Opportunity Changed trigger will continue to function with their original behavior. The new filter operators are optional and will only be applied if you edit and update an existing trigger configuration.
