Configure Your Stripe Account for Nacha Compliance
Overview
Stripe is updating its requirements for ACH Direct Debit payments to comply with Nacha operating rules. If you use Stripe to accept US bank account payments through your CRM, you may need to update your Stripe account settings. This ensures customers can easily identify your business on their bank statements and have a way to contact you.
Note: These changes take effect on March 20, 2026.
Who Needs to Take Action?
You should update your Stripe account if:
- You have a Stripe account connected to your CRM and accept ACH Direct Debit payments.
- You plan to accept US bank account payments in the future.
- Your clients or subaccounts use Stripe for ACH Direct Debit through your CRM.
What You Need to Do in Stripe
You must configure how Stripe classifies your bank payment transactions. Stripe offers three classification options:
- Automatically classify transactions: Stripe determines if each transaction is for goods based on merchant information and transaction details. This option works for most businesses and requires no code changes.
- Classify all ACH transactions as goods: Choose this if you exclusively sell physical or digital products.
- Do not classify any transactions as goods: Select this if you provide services, accept donations, or collect bill payments rather than selling goods.
How to Configure Transaction Classification
- Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.
- Navigate to Settings, then Payments.
- Look for the Link section.
- Locate the Nacha compliance settings.
- Select one of the three classification options.
- Save your changes.
