Understanding Missing Payment Methods in Your CRM's Stripe Checkout
Why Payment Methods May Not Appear at Checkout
When using Stripe through your CRM, the available payment methods (such as credit cards, Klarna, Afterpay, and others) are dynamically determined by Stripe for each transaction. Even if a method is enabled both in your Stripe account and in your CRM's payment settings, Stripe may still hide it under certain conditions.
Stripe's Payment Element adapts to each customer and transaction, meaning different shoppers may see different options. The visibility of a payment method depends on several factors controlled by Stripe:
- Your Stripe account's default currency
- The currency of the product or invoice being purchased
- The customer's location and IP address
- Eligibility rules and restrictions for the payment method in your Stripe account
- Transaction amount limits specific to the method
- Whether the method is supported in the customer's country or region
How to Troubleshoot Missing Payment Methods
Option 1: Use Stripe's Troubleshooting Tool
Stripe offers a dedicated online tool to help debug why specific payment methods might not be appearing. You can access it here: Stripe's Payment Method Troubleshooter.
Option 2: Check Method Requirements in Your Stripe Dashboard
You can also investigate directly within your Stripe dashboard:
- Log into your Stripe Dashboard
- Click the Settings gear icon in the top right corner
- Under Product settings, select Payments
- Navigate to the Payment methods tab
- Find the payment method in question and click View details
A panel will open showing the method's specific requirements and eligibility criteria. Common reasons for methods not appearing include:
- Transaction amount outside acceptable limits
- Currency mismatch between the method and your presentation currency
- Customer location not supported by the method
- Global availability restrictions
What Your CRM Controls Versus What Stripe Controls
Your CRM's payment integration only controls whether a payment method is globally enabled for use with your account. Stripe handles all aspects of rendering the checkout element and deciding which methods to display based on their eligibility rules for each transaction.
If you see a message indicating a method is "blocked by CRM payments," this means the method hasn't been enabled in your CRM's payment settings and may require support assistance to activate. However, even when enabled, your CRM cannot force Stripe to display a payment method that doesn't meet Stripe's eligibility criteria for a specific transaction.
