Connecting BBPOS WisePOS E and Stripe S700 Internet Readers to Mobile POS

About Stripe Internet Readers

Stripe Internet Readers are standalone payment terminals that connect to your mobile device or tablet over a local Wi-Fi network. These devices process tap, insert, and swipe payments directly through Stripe’s secure, PCI-certified infrastructure, ensuring end-to-end encryption for every transaction. When paired with your CRM’s mobile app, they transform any iOS or Android device into a versatile checkout station.

Key Benefits

Using WisePOS E and S700 readers with Mobile POS offers several advantages:

  • All-in-One Hardware: Accept chip, tap, and magnetic stripe payments without additional accessories.
  • Faster Checkout: Customer-facing prompts reduce cashier interaction time.
  • Scalability: Register unlimited readers per location, each appearing in your Payment Instruments list.
  • Unified Reporting: In-person and online sales appear together in your Payments dashboard.
  • Automatic Updates: Firmware updates are handled automatically to maintain compliance with card scheme requirements.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A live Stripe account connected in your CRM under Payments → Integrations.
  • Your mobile device and reader connected to the same 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • The latest version of your CRM’s mobile app installed (v3.103.4 or later).

How to Register a Reader

Step 1: Obtain the Pairing Code

Power on your WisePOS E or S700 reader. On the idle screen, tap Generate Pairing Code to display a six-digit code.

Step 2: Access Internet Reader Settings

Open your CRM’s mobile app and select the appropriate sub-account. Navigate to Settings → Stripe Payment Hardware → Pair New Devices → Internet Readers.

Step 3: Pair the Device

Enter a recognizable name for the reader (e.g., “FrontCounter_WisePOS1”). Type the pairing code shown on the reader and tap Pair. A confirmation message will appear once registration is successful.

Step 4: Register Additional Readers

Repeat these steps for any other readers you wish to connect to your network.

Taking a Payment

Once your reader is registered, taking payments is straightforward:

  1. Start a sale in the POS and add items to the cart.
  2. Under Payment Instruments, select the reader you want to use.
  3. Present the reader to the customer for tap, insert, or swipe.
  4. A 5-minute timer will count down on your mobile screen. Wait for confirmation—the reader will display “Approved,” and the sale will appear immediately in Transaction History.

Troubleshooting and Best Practices

If you encounter issues, try these solutions:

  • Reader not found: Verify both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network; restart the reader; ensure ports 443 and 4070 are open.
  • Pairing code expired: Codes are valid for 60 seconds—generate a new one on the reader and try again.
  • Payment timer expired: Relaunch the sale and ask the customer to keep their card in place until they hear a beep.
  • Moving readers between stores: Unpair the device in Payment Devices, then repeat the pairing steps on the new Wi-Fi network.
