Increasing Your SMS Messaging Limits

Understanding Messaging Limits

Messaging limits help maintain system stability, ensure compliance with carrier regulations, and protect your message deliverability rates. Without proper controls, high-volume messaging could trigger carrier filtering, account flags, or even suspension due to spam concerns. These limits safeguard both your business reputation and the overall reliability of the messaging platform.

Who Can Increase Messaging Limits?

Only agency owners and account administrators have permission to adjust messaging limits. For agencies that have been active for at least three months and are no longer in the trial period, these users can update sub-account messaging limits directly. In all other cases, or if you need to exceed the maximum allowed limit for a location, you must contact Support for assistance.

How to Increase Messaging Limits

For All Sub-Accounts (Agency Level)

To apply a new messaging limit across your entire agency, affecting all sub-accounts:

  1. Go to your Agency Dashboard
  2. Navigate to the Phone Integration page
  3. Select Account Creation
  4. Adjust the Daily Limit based on either the number of messages or the number of segments

This sets the maximum number of messages that can be sent from your agency as a whole.

For a Specific Sub-Account

If you only need to change the limit for one particular sub-account:

  1. Open the desired sub-account
  2. Go to the Phone Numbers page
  3. Click on Advanced Settings
  4. Locate the Message Limit field
  5. Enter the new limit and save your changes

This override applies specifically to the selected sub-account and takes precedence over the agency-wide setting.

Important Considerations

Ramp Status

For agencies using the Ramp system, all newly created sub-accounts will automatically use the Messaging Limits model. However, sub-accounts created before transitioning to Messaging Limits will remain on Ramp. If you need to update a pre-existing sub-account from Ramp to Messaging Limits, please contact Support.

Notifications When Limits Are Reached

When a sub-account hits its messaging limit, all users (both agency and sub-account level) will see a banner notification on the Phone Numbers page. An email alert will also be sent to the configured email addresses informing them that the limit has been reached.

Potential Risks and Restrictions

  • Provider Limitations: Even if your CRM allows higher limits, your messaging provider may enforce their own restrictions, which could cause messages to be filtered or blocked.
  • Account Suspension Risk: Rapidly increasing limits or setting them too high can trigger carrier compliance issues, potentially leading to account flags or suspension.
  • Deliverability Impact: Sudden spikes in messaging volume may be viewed as spam-like behavior by carriers, reducing trust in your phone numbers and affecting deliverability rates.
