Unregistered 10DLC Message Fees Will Increase; Register Numbers by June 1, 2023 to Avoid Higher Unregistered Messaging Fees

Unregistered 10DLC Message Fees Will Increase; Register Numbers by June 1, 2023

Starting June 1, 2023, unregistered 10DLC phone numbers used for business messaging in the United States will be subject to significantly higher per-message fees. To avoid these increased costs, you must register your numbers through your CRM’s A2P 10DLC registration process before this deadline.

This change applies only to standard long code numbers used for Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging. Toll-free numbers and personal (P2P) messaging are not affected.

Why Registration Is Required

10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) is a system that allows businesses to send SMS and MMS messages using standard local phone numbers. Carriers now require all business numbers to be registered to ensure message authenticity, reduce spam, and improve deliverability.

Unregistered numbers will still be able to send messages, but each message will incur a much higher fee. Registering your numbers helps avoid these extra costs and ensures better delivery rates.

How to Register Your Numbers

To register your phone numbers for 10DLC messaging:

  1. Navigate to the Phone System section within your CRM.
  2. Locate the A2P 10DLC registration area.
  3. Follow the step-by-step process to submit your brand and campaign information.

You’ll need to provide details such as your business name, website, sample messages, and opt-in/opt-out methods. Approval may take a few days.

Best Practices for Approval

To ensure your registration is approved without delays:

  • Use consistent branding across your website, sample messages, and campaign description.
  • Provide clear, realistic message samples that match your stated use case.
  • Include proper opt-in and opt-out language in your messages.
  • Verify that your website’s privacy policy and terms of service comply with carrier requirements.

Avoid Prohibited Content

Campaigns involving certain content—such as cannabis, hate speech, or deceptive practices—will be rejected. Make sure your messaging use case aligns with carrier policies to avoid registration issues.

Act Before the Deadline

To avoid higher messaging fees, complete your 10DLC registration before June 1, 2023. Once registered, your numbers will benefit from lower per-message rates and improved deliverability.

If you need assistance during the registration process, refer to your CRM’s support resources or contact your account representative.
