Customizing Your Course Site Appearance
The Theme Customizer gives you complete control over the visual design of your course sites. You can customize everything from logos and headers to course layouts and sidebar elements, ensuring your learning platform reflects your brand identity without requiring technical expertise.
Accessing the Theme Customizer
To begin customizing your course site:
- Navigate to the Customize option within your Course Outline
- Click on Browse System Templates
- Select the Neo Classic Theme to use the new customization features
When you apply the Neo Classic theme from the template browser, it will be clearly labeled as Neo Classic Theme to distinguish it from your saved custom templates.
Saving Custom Templates
You can save your customized theme for future use:
- In the theme editor, click Save as Template
- Enter a name for your template in the naming window
- Click Save to store your template
- After saving, you'll be redirected to your newly created template
Your saved templates appear in the My Templates section. If you haven't saved any templates yet, this area will show helpful guidance to get you started.
Key Customization Options
Logo Settings
The logo is a mandatory element that can be shown or hidden. You can choose between text or image logos and set what happens when users click the logo (redirect to site home or product home). Options include small or medium height settings and placement in the top-left or center of the header.
Search Bar
Control the visibility of the search bar and add instructional text to guide users. You can customize the background color and text color to match your brand.
Hero Section
This top section of your course page can be customized with image backgrounds or solid colors using a color picker. You can add overlays with adjustable color and opacity, and customize the course title and description with various text options and alignment settings. The start button can also be customized with different colors and text.
Welcome Body Content
Add multiple content blocks to your welcome section including images, text, videos, and call-to-action buttons. Each block type offers specific customization options for alignment, colors, and interactive elements.
Course Syllabus
Control the visibility of your course outline and choose how to display your modules and lessons. You can organize by categories or display as a list of posts, with customizable labels for categories, coming soon messages, and show more text.
Course Sidebar
The sidebar includes several customizable elements:
- Progress bar with color and text customization
- Instructor section with headshot and bio information
- Cross-sell section to promote other offers
- Custom blocks for additional content, promotions, or announcements
Additional Page Customizations
Lesson Pages
Customize individual lesson pages with breadcrumb navigation, lesson player background colors, auto-advance settings, and lesson body text alignment and colors.
Category Pages
Adjust the category page sidebar with progress bar visibility and color options, plus text overrides with helpful tooltips.
As you make changes in the Theme Customizer, you'll see real-time previews of how your course site will appear to learners. The primary action button is labeled Activate Template to apply your changes, with updated tooltips and labels for clearer guidance throughout the customization process.
