Configuring the Billing Address for Your Store Checkout

About the Billing Address Feature

The billing address feature allows you to collect payment information separately from shipping details during your store's checkout process. When enabled, customers will see a dedicated section for their billing address. This information is then stored and displayed consistently across your CRM, including in contact records, order confirmations, and customer portals.

Enabling the Billing Address

You can activate this feature directly within your store's checkout page settings.

  1. Open your Store Builder and navigate to your Checkout Page.
  2. Click on the main Checkout Element to open its settings panel.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section and find the Form Options.
  4. Toggle the Enable Billing Address option to the ON position.
  5. Navigate to the General section to customize the text labels. You can edit the Billing Address Headline Text and the Billing Address Checkbox Text.
  6. Click Save and then Publish your changes to make the feature live.

How the Checkout Page Changes

Once enabled, the checkout form will be organized into the following sequence:

  • Contact Details
  • Shipping Details
  • Billing Details (New Section)
  • Notes
  • Shipping Options
  • Payment Methods

Within the new Billing Details section, customers will see a pre-checked box with the label you customized (e.g., "Same as Shipping Address"). This allows them to skip filling out duplicate information unless they need to provide a different billing address.

Where Billing Address Data Appears

After an order is placed, the provided billing address is integrated into several areas of your CRM:

  • Order Details: The billing address is shown under the Customer Info section, distinct from the shipping address.
  • Customer Access Center: The billing address is visible in the customer's order details view.
  • Contact Records: Both shipping and billing addresses are saved on the contact profile linked to the store purchase.
  • Packing Slips & Confirmation Emails: Both addresses are included for clear order processing and customer communication.

Important Considerations

For New and Existing Stores

For stores created after this feature's release, the billing address is enabled by default, and the necessary custom fields are created automatically.

For existing stores, the feature is disabled by default and must be turned on manually. When you enable it, the system will automatically generate the required custom fields. These fields are protected: they cannot be deleted or edited, and they are assigned unique keys. If custom fields with matching keys already exist in your system, those will be used instead of creating new ones.

Data and Tax Calculation

Billing address information will only appear in the system if a customer actually provides it during checkout. It is important to note that the billing address is not currently used for calculating taxes or shipping rates. These calculations continue to be based solely on the shipping address provided.

Common Questions

What if I don't want to use a billing address?

Simply leave the Enable Billing Address toggle in the Checkout settings turned off.

Can customers use the same address for billing and shipping?

Yes. The "Same as Shipping Address" checkbox is selected by default for this exact purpose.

Is the billing address included in order exports?

Yes. If a billing address was provided during checkout, it will be included in exported order data and reports.

Can I edit or delete the billing address custom fields?

No. The custom fields created for the billing address are system-protected and cannot be modified or removed.

Does the billing address affect shipping rates or taxes?

No. At this time, only the shipping address is used for calculating shipping costs and applicable taxes.
