Understanding Listings and Categories
What are Listings and Categories?
In the CRM's Rentals module, Listings and Categories are the fundamental building blocks for organizing your rental business.
Listings are your individual rental items, such as properties, vehicles, or equipment. Each listing contains its own details, including a title, description, images, pricing, and availability.
Categories are groups used to organize related listings. For example, a property manager might create categories like "Beachfront Villas" or "City Apartments," while an equipment rental company could use "Power Tools" or "Audio Equipment." Categories help both you and your customers find what they need quickly.
Key Benefits of Using Listings and Categories
- Improved Organization: Manage a large inventory of rentals efficiently by grouping similar items.
- Control Public Display: The order of categories in your admin panel directly controls how they are grouped and displayed on the public booking page.
- Streamlined Sharing: Generate and share direct links to a specific category, sending customers straight to a curated selection of relevant listings.
- Focused Management: Configure pricing, booking rules, and calendar sync settings on a per-listing basis.
How to Access the Rentals Module
To manage your listings and categories, follow these steps:
- Click on the Calendars tab in the left-hand navigation menu.
- In the top navigation bar that appears, select Calendar Settings.
- Within the settings, click on the Rentals tab.
- Finally, click on Listings under the Rentals section.
This will open the main Listings panel where you can view and manage all your rental items.
Understanding the Listings Panel
The Listings panel is your central dashboard for all rental items. It provides a table with the following columns:
- Image: A thumbnail picture of the rental item.
- Name: The title of the listing.
- Status: Indicates if the listing is Active or Inactive.
- Base Price: The starting rental price (e.g., per day or week).
- Stock: The number of available units.
- Actions: A menu with options to Edit, Duplicate, Share, or Delete the listing.
Above the table, you will find a search bar to find listings by name and a dropdown to sort the list.
The Category Panel
On the left side of the screen, you will see the Category Panel, which lists all your categories. Clicking on a category name will filter the main list to show only the listings within that group. Next to each category name is a ⋮ (more options) menu, which provides actions for that category.
Tip: You can drag and drop categories in this left-hand panel to reorder them. This order is reflected on the public customer booking page.
Creating a New Category
- Navigate to Rentals > Listings.
- In the Category Panel on the left, click the + New Category button.
- A pop-up window will appear. Enter a Category Name (this is required).
- You can also set a Custom URL Slug, which defines the web address for the category's public page.
- Click Create Category to save.
Managing and Sharing Categories
Editing a Category
Click the ⋮ menu next to the category name and select Edit. You can then change the category's name or URL slug.
Sharing a Category
Select Share from the ⋮ menu to copy a direct link to the public booking page for that specific category.
Deleting a Category
Choose Delete from the ⋮ menu. When you delete a category, any listings that were assigned to it will be moved to the Default Category.
Reordering Categories
Simply click and drag categories within the left-hand panel to change their order. This order is what your customers will see.
How Categories Influence Listings
Every listing must be assigned to one category. If you do not assign one, it will automatically be placed in the Default Category. The order of your categories directly controls the grouping and sequence in which listings are presented to customers on the booking website.
