Troubleshooting Google Ads Reporting in Your CRM
Resolving Google Ads Reporting Issues
Connecting your Google Ads account to the CRM provides valuable insights into your advertising performance. If your reports are not displaying data correctly, follow these troubleshooting steps to diagnose and fix common configuration problems.
1. Verify the Google Ads Account Integration
First, confirm that your Google Ads account is properly connected to the CRM. Once you have verified the connection, check that the email address used for the integration is the same one associated with your Google Ads account.
Important: The connected email account must have a user role (such as Admin or User) within your Google Ads account. It cannot have a Manager role. For the integration to function correctly, the user should have the highest level of permissions (Admin) in Google Ads.
2. Check Your UTM Tracking Template Placement
UTM tracking templates can only be set in one location within Google Ads: either at the Account, Campaign, or Ad level. If a template is defined in multiple places, Google Ads will follow a hierarchy, using the template from the most specific level (Ad level overrides Campaign, which overrides Account).
Important: UTM parameters are case-sensitive. You must enter them exactly as specified, using only lowercase letters.
3. Ensure Campaign, Ad Set, and Ad Names Are Unique
To prevent duplicate entries in your CRM reports, the names for your Google Ads campaigns, ad sets, and individual ads must be unique. If identical names are used across different ad sets or ads, the reporting data will show duplicates, making it difficult to track performance accurately.
For example, if you have an ad named "Nike Sport Shoes 1" in two different ad sets, the CRM's Google Ads report will display two separate entries for "Nike Sport Shoes 1" under the Leads column. To correct this, assign unique names to each ad, such as "Nike Sport Shoes 1.1" and "Nike Sport Shoes 1.2".
Note on Renaming: If you change the name of an existing campaign, ad set, or ad, the UTM parameters associated with that item will not update. The reporting in the CRM will reflect the new name, but the data for sales, leads, and ROI will still be attributed to the old UTM parameters. To ensure accurate tracking with new names, it is recommended to create entirely new campaigns, ad sets, and ads.
