Adding a Custom Domain to Your Site

This guide explains how to connect a custom domain or sub-domain to a site built with the platform's website builder. By following these steps, you can link your domain, ensure a secure connection with an SSL certificate, and optionally set it as the primary address for your site.

Step 1: Start the Domain Connection Process

From your CRM dashboard, go to the section for managing your website. Look for the option labeled Add Domain and click on it to begin.

Step 2: Enter Your Domain Name

Type the full domain or sub-domain name you own (for example, example.com or blog.example.com) into the provided field.

Step 3: Copy the Required DNS Records

After entering your domain, the system will automatically generate the specific DNS records needed for the connection. These records, which might include an A record or a CNAME record, will be displayed. It is critical to copy the exact Key and Value pairs shown, as they are unique to your site's server.

Step 4: Update Your Domain's DNS Settings

Log in to the account where you purchased your domain (your domain registrar, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap). Navigate to the DNS management area and add the new records you copied from the previous step.

Step 5: Verify the Domain and SSL

Return to the domain management section in your CRM. Check the box to confirm you have updated your DNS records. Then, click the Verify or Verify Certificate button to initiate the SSL certificate activation process.

Step 6: Set as Primary Domain (Optional)

Once the domain is verified and the SSL certificate is active, you will see an option to set this new domain as your site's primary domain.

Understanding DNS Propagation

After you update your DNS records, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours for the changes to take effect across the internet. This delay is known as propagation. You can use online tools to check the status of your domain's propagation.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If your domain fails to verify, here are some common causes and solutions:

  • Typo in the Domain Name: Carefully check that the domain name you entered in the CRM matches the one you own exactly.
  • DNS Propagation Delay: If you recently updated the DNS records, wait a few hours and try verifying again.
  • Incorrect DNS Configuration: Ensure the DNS records were pasted into your registrar's settings without any extra characters or spaces.
  • Conflicting DNS Records: Your domain should not have multiple, conflicting records (like an old A record and a new CNAME) pointing to different locations. Remove any outdated records from your DNS settings.
