How to Add an Additional Domain to Your Website

Adding an Additional Domain to Your Website

This guide explains how to connect an additional domain or subdomain to a website built with your CRM. The process involves adding DNS records with your domain provider to point the new domain to your site.

Step 1: Initiate the Domain Addition

In your CRM's website settings, locate and click the Add domain or sub-domain button. This will open the setup process.

Step 2: Add a CNAME Record

You will be prompted to add a CNAME record for your domain.

  • Enter the domain name you wish to use.
  • Click the Generate CNAME button.
  • Copy the unique Key and Value that the system generates.
  • In your domain provider's DNS management console, create a new CNAME record using these values.
  • Once the record is added, check the box confirming you have done so.
  • Click Verify and Create Certificate.

Important: The specific Key and Value for your CNAME (and A record) will be unique to your account (e.g., wp1.msgsndr.com, wp2.msgsndr.com). Always use the values displayed on your screen.

Step 3: Create an A Record

After the CNAME is verified, a popup will appear with a value for an A record.

  • Copy this value.
  • Go to your domain provider's DNS settings and create a new A record, pasting in the copied value.

Important: The A record value is also unique to your setup. Double-check the value provided in the popup on your screen.

Finalizing the Setup

Once both DNS records have been added and propagated, you can set the new domain as the primary domain for the site from within the website dashboard. DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, depending on your domain provider. You can use online tools like DNS checker websites to verify when the propagation is complete.

Troubleshooting: Domain Not Connecting

If your domain fails to connect, here are the most common causes:

  • Typo in the Domain Name: Carefully check for any spelling errors in the domain you entered.
  • DNS Propagation Delay: The changes may not have fully propagated across the internet. Wait a few hours and check again.
  • Incorrect DNS Configuration: Verify that the CNAME and A records were entered exactly as provided by the CRM. If you are unsure, contact your domain provider's support team for assistance.
  • Conflicting DNS Records: Ensure there are no other records (like a duplicate A record) for the same subdomain that could be causing a conflict. Remove any duplicates.

Please note that DNS configuration is managed by your domain provider. The CRM support team is unable to assist with changes in your domain provider's system.
