Editing Live or In-Review Meta Ad Campaigns
Why Edit a Live Campaign?
Making adjustments to an active or in-review Meta ad campaign allows you to respond to real-world performance and keep your advertising strategy agile. Instead of pausing a campaign and starting over, you can directly refine key elements. This capability lets you:
- Fix mistakes from the initial setup.
- Optimize based on early performance data and KPIs.
- Update ad creative or targeting based on new insights.
- Make timely adjustments without interrupting your campaign's momentum.
How to Edit a Published or In-Review Campaign
You can edit campaigns that are currently live or in the "In Review" state with Meta.
- Go to the Ad Manager home page, which lists all your campaigns.
- Find the specific live or in-review campaign you wish to modify.
- Click the ellipsis (three dots) menu next to that campaign and select the Edit option.
- The campaign builder will open, where you can change the editable fields detailed in the next section.
Note: After you make any changes, an "Unpublished Changes" indicator will appear on the screen.
Editable Fields for Live/In-Review Campaigns
For campaigns in these states, you can modify the following:
- Campaign Name
- Call-to-Action (CTA) Button
- Lead Generation Form (if the campaign objective is Lead Generation)
- Website URL (if the objective is Website Traffic)
- Special Ad Category
- Ad Placements
- Ad Text and Media (images, videos)
- Budget amount
- Targeted Geographic Locations
- Target Audience parameters (interests, lookalikes, retargeting)
- End Date (if using a lifetime budget)
Fields That Cannot Be Edited
Once a campaign is published or in review, the following settings are permanently locked and cannot be changed:
- Campaign Objective
- Connected Facebook Page
- Start Date
- Budget Type (You cannot switch between a Daily and a Lifetime budget.)
Discarding Your Changes
If you decide not to keep the edits you've made:
- Click the Back button at the top left of the campaign builder screen.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Discard to revert the campaign to its last published state and abandon all your recent changes.
Publishing Your Changes
To apply your edits and send the updated campaign for review:
- After making your changes, proceed to the review page.
- Click the Publish Ad Now button.
- Confirm the action in the dialog that appears.
The campaign will return to the "In Review" status while Meta reviews the updates. Once approved, the revised campaign will go live. If the changes introduce an error, the campaign status will change to "Failed," and you can view the reason for the failure in the status tooltip.
