How to Set Up Automatic Affiliate Promotions Based on Performance
About Automatic Affiliate Leveling
The automatic affiliate leveling feature in your CRM allows you to reward high-performing affiliates by automatically moving them to a better campaign when they hit specific performance targets. Instead of manually tracking and promoting affiliates, you can set rules based on milestones like the number of customers they bring or the total revenue they generate. This automation helps keep your affiliate program fair, motivating, and efficient.
Benefits of Automatic Leveling
Using this feature provides several key advantages for managing your affiliate network:
- Hands-Free Management: Eliminates the need for constant manual review and promotion of affiliates.
- Customizable Goals: You define the exact performance criteria, such as a specific customer count or revenue amount, that triggers a promotion.
- Flexible Campaign Structure: You can promote affiliates between different types of campaigns, such as Website, Store, or Funnel campaigns.
- Clear Incentives: Affiliates are motivated to reach the next tier, knowing a better commission structure or opportunity awaits.
- Control Over Customer Attribution: You can choose whether an affiliate’s existing customers stay in the original campaign or move with the affiliate to the new one for future commissions.
How to Configure Automatic Affiliate Leveling
Follow these steps to set up performance-based promotions for your affiliates.
1. Navigate to Affiliate Campaigns
From the main navigation, go to Marketing, then select Affiliate Manager and choose Campaign.
2. Create or Select a Campaign
Click the + Add button to create a new affiliate campaign. If you are modifying an existing campaign, locate it from your list using the search bar.
3. Enable the Level-Up Feature
While setting up or editing the campaign, proceed to the Commissions step. Look for the section titled Level Up to another Campaign and expand it to access the configuration options.
4. Choose the Destination Campaign
Use the dropdown menu to select the campaign you want to promote affiliates to. This is the higher-tier campaign they will automatically join upon meeting the criteria.
5. Set the Performance Criteria
Define what triggers the promotion. You can choose between two metrics:
- Customers: Promote the affiliate after they refer a set number of customers.
- Revenue: Promote the affiliate after they generate a specific total revenue amount.
Enter the target number or amount in the provided field.
6. Decide on Customer Handling
Choose what happens to commissions from customers the affiliate already referred:
- Keep these customers (and their future purchases) in the original campaign.
- Move these customers with the affiliate, so their future purchases are tracked in the new destination campaign.
7. Review and Publish
Check all your campaign settings, including the level-up rules. When you are satisfied, click Next and publish the campaign. The automatic leveling system is now active.
Common Questions
Can I temporarily turn off automatic leveling?
There is no dedicated pause button. To temporarily disable it, go back into the campaign's Level-Up settings and change the selected destination campaign back to the option for No level up campaign. You will need to reconfigure the settings manually when you want to re-enable it.
Can affiliates be promoted between campaigns in different sub-accounts?
No. Automatic leveling only works within a single sub-account. If you manage multiple sub-accounts, you would need to set up the affiliate and campaign structure separately in each one and handle any promotions manually.
What happens if I remove a product from the original campaign?
Removing a product does not affect affiliates who have already been leveled up. However, it will stop tracking new commissions for that product in the original campaign. If the same product exists in the destination campaign, future purchases will be tracked there according to the customer handling rule you selected.
Can I use tags or contact filters to control who gets leveled up?
No. The level-up trigger is based solely on the quantitative performance metrics of Customers or Revenue. You cannot use tags, contact attributes, or other filters as qualifying criteria. You can, however, use workflows to apply tags to affiliates after they have been leveled up as part of a larger automation.
