Host Live Meetings and Broadcasts with Go Live in Communities
What is Go Live in Communities?
Go Live is a built-in feature that allows you to host real-time video and audio sessions directly within your CRM's Communities. You can use it to conduct interactive meetings or broadcast professional streams to any group or channel. Members can join instantly from their web browser or mobile app, participate in live chat, react with emojis, and if enabled, watch recordings after the session ends. This native functionality keeps all engagement within your community platform, simplifying the experience for both hosts and attendees.
Go Live offers two distinct modes to suit different needs:
- Meeting Room Mode: An interactive, multi-participant video room where everyone can see and hear each other. The host has controls for managing participants, screen sharing, chat, and layout.
- Stream Software Mode: A one-way broadcast experience that lets you stream video from external software (like OBS, Zoom, or StreamYard) into your community. Viewers watch the stream and interact via chat within the community interface.
Key Benefits of Using Go Live
- Seamless Access: Members join sessions directly on web or mobile without needing to install additional software or follow external links.
- Flexible Formats: Choose between collaborative meetings or high-quality broadcasts depending on your goals.
- Built-in Engagement Tools: Includes real-time text chat, emoji reactions, and a hand raise feature to keep sessions interactive.
- Host Controls: Manage participants by muting/unmuting audio and video, granting screen share permissions, and removing attendees if necessary.
- Recording and Replays: Optionally record sessions and share them with members who couldn't attend live.
- All-in-One Platform: Keeps the entire live session experience—from discovery to participation to follow-up—within your community.
Meeting Room Mode
Use Meeting Room Mode for interactive sessions where face-to-face collaboration is key, such as coaching calls, workshops, or team meetings. All participants join the same virtual room, and the host manages the flow of conversation and presentation.
Features of Meeting Room Mode
- Preview your camera and microphone before joining the session.
- Clear distinction between Host and Attendee roles with specific permissions.
- Live text chat runs alongside the video feed, supporting links, file uploads, and messages of any length.
- Screen sharing for your entire desktop or a specific application window.
- Emoji reactions and a "Raise Hand" feature for participants to request to speak.
- Dynamic video layouts: Grid view shows multiple participants, while Speaker view highlights the active speaker.
- Support for multiple participants, ideal for panels or group discussions.
- Optional recording feature to create a replay of the session.
Stream Software Mode
Choose Stream Software Mode when you want to broadcast a stream produced by external video software. You'll use a provided Stream Key and URL to connect your encoder (like OBS), and your community members will watch the stream and interact via the built-in chat.
Features of Stream Software Mode
- Auto-generated Stream Key and Stream URL for connecting your external broadcasting software.
- Low-latency streaming technology for smooth playback.
- Viewer chat and emoji reactions for real-time interaction.
- Use your existing camera setups, scenes, and overlays from your preferred streaming software.
- Persistent Stream Keys that remain the same for future sessions, so you don't need to reconfigure your encoder each time.
How to Start a Go Live Session
Step 1: Access the Group and Initiate Go Live
Navigate to your sub-account's Memberships area. Hover over the Communities tab and click on Groups. Select the group where you want to host the session and click Login to enter it. Click the Go Live button (which appears as a red video camera icon) located near the area where you would normally create a new post.
Step 2: Configure the Post Details
In the panel that appears on the right side of the screen, under "Add post details":
- Enter a Title for your live session.
- Add a Description to provide context for attendees.
- Under Settings, choose whether to:
- Keep the livestream as a post after it ends.
- Notify members that you are going live (sends in-app and push notifications).
- Under "Choose where to post," select the specific channel within the group where the live session should appear.
- For "When are you going live?", leave the default setting of "Now."
Step 3: Select Your Video Source
Choose one of the two options:
Option 1: Meeting Room
Under "Select video source," choose "Meeting Room" and then click "Go live." Allow your browser to access your camera and microphone when prompted. Members will see the live session in the channel and can join by clicking the "Join Stream" button. Once connected, you are live. Use the controls available to manage the session.
Option 2: Stream Software
Under "Select video source," choose "Stream Software." Use the provided Stream Key and Stream URL to configure your external broadcasting software. Once your encoder is connected and streaming, members in the community will see your broadcast and can interact via chat.
In-Session Controls (Meeting Room Mode)
When hosting a Meeting Room session, you have access to various controls:
- View: Switch between Speaker view (emphasizes the active speaker) and Gallery view (shows multiple participants).
- Audio/Video Devices: Select your preferred microphone, speakers, and camera.
- Participants: View lists of Hosts and Attendees. As the host, you can mute/unmute participants, grant or revoke microphone, camera, and screen share permissions, or remove a participant from the session.
- Chat: Participants can send messages and use emojis during the live session.
