Using Custom Object Templates to Set Up Your CRM

What Are Custom Object Templates?

Custom Object Templates provide pre-built configurations that help you quickly establish industry-specific structures within your CRM. These templates include ready-to-use Custom Objects, organized fields, and predefined associations, allowing you to set up data organization around real-world business processes without starting from scratch.

Key Benefits

Using Custom Object Templates offers several advantages for streamlining your CRM setup:

  • Faster Implementation: Create complete Custom Object structures with fields, folders, and associations in a single process rather than building each component manually.
  • Industry-Relevant Starting Points: Choose from templates designed for common industries including Real Estate, Insurance, Automotive, SaaS, Events, Pets, and Home Services.
  • Improved Data Organization: Utilize predefined field groupings and folder structures to keep related information logically organized.
  • Built-in Relationships: Templates include associations that enable connections between records across Companies, Opportunities, and Custom Objects.
  • Preview Capability: Review all template components including objects, fields, associations, descriptions, tags, and prerequisites before applying them to your CRM.

Accessing the Template Library

Custom Object Templates are available in the Template Library alongside other template modules. You can browse available industries, examine template details, and apply templates when creating Custom Objects.

How to Apply a Custom Object Template

Follow these steps to implement a Custom Object Template:

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Select Objects from the left navigation pane
  3. Click Add Custom Object
  4. Choose the option to use a template for creating objects
  5. Browse the available Custom Object Templates
  6. Select the template that matches your industry or use case
  7. Review the template preview showing objects, fields, associations, description, tags, and prerequisites
  8. Click Import Objects to apply the template
  9. Review the created Custom Objects and make any necessary adjustments

After applying the template, carefully review the created objects, fields, and associations to ensure they align with your specific workflow requirements.

Managing Template Visibility (Agency Administrators)

Custom Object Templates use the same visibility controls as other Template Library modules. Agency administrators can manage which templates are visible to users:

Per Sub-Account Settings

From the Agency Dashboard, access Template Library settings and navigate to the Customize for Sub-Account Settings tab. Search for the specific sub-account and choose to either hide the Template Library entirely, show it completely, or hide specific modules including Custom Objects.

Global Category Visibility

In the Categories tab, administrators can toggle visibility for individual categories such as Real Estate or Insurance. Changes apply immediately, and these restrictions only affect sub-account users—agency users and administrators always maintain Template Library access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do templates create records automatically?
