Email Tracking for CRM Email
What is Email Tracking?
Email tracking allows you to monitor and record specific actions recipients take when they interact with your emails. This includes tracking when an email is opened (open tracking) and when links within the email are clicked (click tracking). By enabling these features, you gain valuable insights into the effectiveness of your email campaigns, helping you understand recipient engagement and optimize your marketing strategies based on real-time data.
Why Use Email Tracking?
Email tracking provides valuable insights into how your audience engages with your emails, enabling you to refine your marketing strategies and improve overall campaign performance. By tracking opens and clicks, you can identify which content resonates most, optimize your messaging, and increase conversions.
Real-World Example
Imagine you're running an email campaign to promote a new product launch. With email tracking enabled, you can see which recipients opened your email and clicked on the product link. If a significant number of people clicked the link but didn't complete the purchase, that data prompts you to follow up with a targeted email—perhaps offering a limited-time discount or additional information—ultimately driving more sales. Without email tracking, you'd be left guessing about your audience's behavior, missing opportunities to optimize your campaign.
Where to Find Email Tracking
To access email tracking settings:
- Log in to your sub-account dashboard.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on the Email Services tab.
How to Set Up Email Tracking

- Open Domain Settings: Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top corner of your CRM Email dedicated sending domain card. From the dropdown, select Domain Settings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of data is collected when tracking email activity?
Engagement data is collected and attributed to contacts in your sub-account records. Within email tracking analytics, you'll see the following event types per contact: Email Sent, Email Delivered, Email Opened, Email Clicked (link inside the email), Email Bounced, Complained (marked as spam), Unsubscribed, and Email Failed to Send.
Can I track email activity if I am using an external email provider?
No. Email tracking analytics is only available when CRM Email is your SMTP provider. If your sub-account is configured to send through an external provider, tracking data will not be available.
Can I track emails sent from my personal email address?
No. You need to send emails from a CRM Email dedicated sending domain to track email activity and engagement. You can still use your personal email address as a "From Name" when sending emails, but tracking is not supported when an external provider is your SMTP provider.
What happens if I turn off email tracking?
If you turn off email tracking, you will no longer have visibility into engagement data such as opens, clicks, bounces, and more. We recommend keeping email tracking enabled so you maintain full visibility into which contacts are engaging with your email campaigns.
Can I configure tracking settings differently for each sending domain?
Yes. Tracking settings are configured at the individual domain level via Domain Settings. If you have multiple dedicated sending domains, you can enable or disable open and click tracking independently for each one.
Does enabling click tracking change the links in my emails?
Yes—when click tracking is enabled, links in your emails are wrapped through a tracking redirect so clicks can be recorded. This is standard practice for email marketing analytics and does not affect the final destination your recipients are sent to when they click a link.
