How to Add a Countdown Timer to Your Emails
Why Use a Countdown Timer?
Countdown timers are dynamic elements that add a sense of urgency and excitement to your emails. They help encourage recipients to take action by displaying a ticking clock counting down to a specific deadline or event.
How Countdown Timers Function in Emails
Countdown timers in emails are typically implemented as animated GIFs. When a recipient opens your email, the timer checks the current time and begins counting down from that moment for up to 60 seconds. For example, if a timer is set to expire on a future date and the email is opened beforehand, it will show the remaining time accurately and update dynamically while the email remains open.
If the email is closed and reopened later, the timer will refresh and recalculate the countdown based on the latest timestamp. This approach helps keep email file sizes manageable while maintaining the timer's engaging effect.
Note on Apple Mail
Apple Mail may cache the timer GIF, which can prevent it from updating correctly upon subsequent openings. If a user opens the same email multiple times in Apple Mail, the countdown might appear frozen after the initial view.
